March Promotion:
AX-100TFR and AX-200TFR wireless-ready photobeams
Optex is pleased to announce our first promotion of 2010. During the month of March contact your local distribution branch for big savings on the AX-100TFR and AX-200TFR, our wireless ready, battery operated photobeams.
The AX-100TFR and AX-200TFR allows for 100 and 200 ft. of protection while offering the quick and cost effective installation not associated with hardwired detectors. In a traditional hardwired perimeter application, labor and installation costs can skyrocket due to the trenching and wiring required. Contact your local distributor through the month of March for pricing and avalibility.
AX-100TFR and 200TFR Features:
- Long battery life [Approx. five (5) years for the 100TFR and three (3) years for the 200TFR]
- Low battery output and LED - The AX-TFR series automatically notifies when the battery power becomes low (A second wireless transmitter is required to monitor low battery signal) Low battery LED will flicker when a front cover is removed
- Works with most manufacturers wireless systems
- D.Q. Circuit (Environmental Disqualification) - Eliminates false alarms generated by gradual signal loss caused by extreme weather conditions such as snow, fog, heavy rain and icy build-up.
- IP55 Rated
- Four selectable beam frequencies - eliminates cross talk in stacking applications
- N.C. / N.O. output selection switch

Case Study:
NO WIRES, NO HASSLES, FINALLY.
A new way to get complete perimeter security without the hassles and cost of a traditional hardwired system.
Construction site theft is big business, and even with the slow-down in the housing market industry experts continue to estimate annual losses at roughly $1 billion USD. Production delays caused by temporary site shutdown, a rise in insurance costs, increased operating expenses and constantly replacing stolen items with new ones are all issues a contractor must deal with when theft occurs. These issues generally add 1to 2 percent to building costs.
Site protection is essential to controlling and minimizing loss of valuable equipment. While there are a variety of security solutions available, many have potential gaps that could lead to unwanted access. Fencing offers a deterrent; yet it requires constant onsite monitoring and maintenance and can still be easily cut. Guard services offer constant monitoring yet are expensive and easily avoided by thieves on larger sites. Traditional hardwired security sensors offer protection, however are not practical due to the trenching and wiring associated; not to mention the power requirements and inability to be moved at a moment’s notice. The trick is finding a solution that incorporates considerable perimeter and spot protection and can easily be moved to accommodate changing conditions. The sensors must also work in an environment where power is limited or not available, asis the case with most job sites.
Product Spotlight:
HX-40RAM : High Mount, Wireless-Ready, Anti-Masking PIR
The HX-40RAM from OPTEX is the only outdoor PIR on the market today that is battery operated, mountable from 8-10 feet high and features anti-masking technology. The sensor includes two high density detection zones with unique pyro elements to reduce false and missed alarms caused by severe environmental changes. It also features “Ideal Detection Area Setting” to allow the HX-40RAM’s detection area to be set at 40’, 30’, 18.3’ or 13.3’ to achieve accurate installation. The HX-40RAM sets itself apart from the competition by offering a combination of three features not available together from any other outdoor sensor on the market. A higher mounting height offers the flexibility to cover a wide variety of outdoor applications, while the Anti-Masking technology allows for the stability required in those same applications. To top it off, the unit is battery operated and is compatible with most manufacturers wireless technology. This again allows for a wide range of applications, especially where trenching or running wires is not an option.
Employee Spotlight: Tech Department
Optex Inc. is pleased to recognize Richard Ramos and Frank Chavez in our first Employee Spotlight. As the first point of contact for most dealers and integrators doing field work, Richard and Frank are equipped with the knowledge required to assist our customers in atimely and friendly manner.
Richard Ramos
“Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Florida, I moved to California just over 5 years ago. I currently have a degree in Computer Electronics and have been with Optex Inc. a year and a half now.On my personal time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, camping and spending time with my wife and 2 kids.”
Frank Chavez
“I have a 11yr old daughter & a 5yr old son and we recently purchased a house in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. Before arriving at OPTEX I worked for about 3 years as a field Tech for a Fire Alarm company. I enjoy spending time with my kids, helping out as an assistant coach on my son's baseball team, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and L.A Dodgers.”
On an average day, how many calls does the tech department receive?
RR: Typically we receive anywhere from 20-30 calls.
What product do you answer the most questions on?
FC: The most questions we get is on the Wireless 1000 driveway/door announcer. The majority of the time it’s a simple programming question.
RR: It’s our most popular product and also expandable so it’s expected that most our phone calls relate to it.
As an Optex tech, what does your job consist of? RR: Besides taking tech calls we support our sales team, test products, put together photobeam towers for customers, issue return authorization numbers and spec out jobs, especially the larger outdoor jobs that are high security and require multiple sensors. Another major part of our job is troubleshooting with our customer’s field techs.
What advice would you offer a field tech that was going to call in for help?
FC: The first thing is READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL! A lot of questions can be answered by reading the instuctions before trying to install a product. I would also recommend that when working with the SIP Redwall series, make sure you have the proper equipment to align your PIR (AREA VIEW FINDER & WALKTESTER).
RR: I would recommend that the tech be onsite when calling in, with his tools and the cover off the Optex product. The call should be pretty easy at that point.
