Introduction:

A Dealer integrator located in the Northern California Central Valley was asked by one of their existing customers, a local wine distributor, to help resolve a problem with theft that was causing inventory to be lost (stolen), and orders to not reach 100% fulfillment. Distribution and warehouses up and down the HWY 99 and I-5 corridors are often targeted because of their remote locations and accessibility to and from the interstate.

Problem:

Due to the enormous size of the property along with the number of access points and dock doors, the visual verification solution needed to be easy to deploy. In addition, it must utilize an open platform to communicate with multiple types of devices and cameras, so the integrator could offer options to the end user, ensuring the complete coverage of the facility while also being priced competitively.

Job Site:

The local wine distributor, working with the integrator team, designed and installed a new solution that placed cameras on all the egress/access points, dock doors, as well as inventory storage areas throughout the half-million square foot warehouse. The integrator used over 50 cameras and 5 OPTEX Bridges on the site, and were able to create a solution that upon device activation instructs the OPTEX BRIDGE to pull the secondary stream of the IP camera assigned to that detection area and send it over AWS on an SSL directly to the integrator’s in-house central monitoring station’s automation system, arriving and auto populating at the exact moment the alarm signal arrives. The alarm event coupled with the visual verification allows the operator to see exactly what put the system into alarm and make a better decision based on how to respond; dispatch PD or local municipality, dismiss the event, or push the notification/video to the end user for them to make the decision.

Solution:

Assessing the situation, the dealer integrator quickly realized that designing a new custom-tailored intrusion alarm and IP camera system, paired with the OPTEX BRIDGE powered by CHeKT was the best solution for this site.

1. It can easily be set up saving everyone time & money.

2. The OPTEX BRIDGE is an open platform, meaning it works with any trigger device, any alarm panel, & any ONVIF protocol, analog, or high-def camera over coax.

3. Finally, if needed the system can easily be expanded. Even with the daily activity at the distribution location, the integrator was able to complete the installation in 8 weeks and the end user has been pleased with the results.

Result/Conclusion:

The visual verification solution now puts “eyes on sensors”, and covers the more than 90 dock roll-up doors, over 35 man-doors, 20+ motion detectors, and the inventory. It offers something that a traditional intrusion just cannot do on its own, raising the confidence of the distributor by eliminating their inventory reduction through theft to “0”. The distributor is confident in knowing that when they arm the alarm system at the end of each day, their property, building, and inventory are well protected, and any unwanted visitors will trigger an alarm. Along with the alarm signal, a video of the intruder and their actions will be sent directly to the central monitoring station with the OPTEX Bridge, providing an immediate dispatch of the authorities.
